My PLN

I recently attended the 'arts matters' conference. During the two days, I was able to gain valuable information for integrating the arts into everyday classroom activities. I now have a greater appreciation for teaching music, art, drama and dance. The instructors gave us many cross-curricular lesson plans that I will most definately use in my future classroom. I especially enjoyed the dance component. I found it extremely interesting to learn that children can dance out strong stables and structures using scientific terminology. For example, students can be split into groups and they have to use their bodies to represent a type of bridge using descriptive words (ie, swinging suspension bridge. This is a unique, hands on, engaging way to ensure that students are learning what they need to in a fun way. I chose to represent this presentation because I feel that the arts curriculum is extremely important, and we are starting to see less and less of it. I think that it is so important that students have hands on opportunities, and that they can make meaningful connections to everyday activities. There was some technology included throughout the conference. Technology is also an important learning tool that I will use. Technology fascinates children and keeps them interested. I want to provide meaningful, fun, hands on classroom instruction to meet the needs of all learners. The arts conference definately pointed me in that direction!
